Coco was found - paralyzed
Coco disappeared from her foster home on Friday, May 7, 2010. She spent two weeks on the streets in thunderstorm after thunderstorm. She was most certainly afraid, hungry and confused. Coco was found in a plastic cat carrier inside an open garage. Her back legs were paralyzed and she was severely emaciated, dirty and very weak. Because she could only drag her back legs and was unable to forage for food - she would not have survived much longer. Coco lost 15 pounds, weighing only 33 pounds when we found her.
We rushed Coco to the emergency vet only to be told her prognosis for her recovery was poor and that we should have blood work and heavy metal tests done at our vet immediately. Since Friday, Coco has had multiple vet appointments, x rays and, just yesterday, saw a neurologist at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital in Akron.
All the vets, including the neurologist, recommended an MRI be conducted ASAP to determine the extent of Coco's injury and whether or not surgery would be necessary. On Wednesday, May 26, 2010, Coco had an MRI at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital, which determined that:
Coco's vet bills will be approximately $2,600, which includes 3 vet bills, the x-rays and the MRI. The vets require payment up front and so we need donations ASAP to continue Coco's care. Coco had a rough start in life, she was chained up and severely neglected for the first 1.5 years of her life, until finally rescued by the good folks at the Humane Society of Greater Akron. Coco is a very gentle, shy little girl and we dearly want to give her a chance to find a loving home. Please, please donate. Even $5 will help. Thank you.
Foster Parents for Pooches is a 501(c)(3) organization so donations are tax deductible. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. Thanks to everyone for your help, for searching for Coco, for hanging 1,000's of flyers (that finally brought her home) and for everything else you did. And, thank you for your prayers and concern for this lost sheep.

- Coco was most likely hit by a car.
- She has a back fracture, with a traumatic disk injury and a bruised spinal cord caused by the fracture.
- Her bladder may have suffered damage and, as a result, she cannot control it and is on antibiotics.
